Addressing Development on Aboriginal Freehold Land
A Professional Development Seminar 

There is great confusion about the sequence of obtaining an ILUA, lease and development approval to see economic development materialise on Aboriginal Freehold Land. This seminar is designed as a practical lecture targeted specifically at addressing development on Aboriginal Freehold Land.

The purpose of the seminar is to provide a step-by-
step overview of the process and includes the roles and responsibilities of Land Trusts, Prescribed Bodies Corporate,Planners, Developers and Local Government authorities.


The presentation is in 4 parts:

1. An overview of Aboriginal land tenure across northern Australia and Queensland       in particular
      Presented by Ed Wensing sessional Lecturer at JCU

2. The role of the Land Trust and the Prescribed Body Corporate in creating ILUA’s       and Leases for development
      Presented by Ivan Deemal General Manager Hopevale Congress Aboriginal               Corporation

3. How development applications are made to and treated by the Aboriginal Shire        Council
      Presented by Robert Zigterman of DATSIMA

4. Speakers Panel session
      Facilitated by Kate Galloway JCU lecturer Property Law
