Professional Development Seminar for Architects and Designers
Designed in Cairns is an initiative through the Australian Institute of Architects FNQ Regional Members Committee and held in conjunction with The Cairns Institute JCU. The sessions are open to the public and also provides continuing professional development (CPD) activities for architects, designers, engineers and construction professionals generally in the region.
This Seminar
The third seminar in this series is based around the fundamental lighting principle of ‘three layers of light – Ambient Luminescence, Focal Glow, and Play of Brilliants – espoused by the father of modern lighting design, Richard Kelly. We examine how new lighting technologies such as LED have provided designers with the tools and the freedom to apply fundamental principles in new ways. Of course, with any new technology there are pitfalls…
The Presenter
Carl Gray is the principal of GrayLight – and a passionate, experienced, qualified, and award-winning lighting designer/engineer, with more than 15 years’ experience in architectural lighting.
Carl has received Queensland Lighting Design Awards for three projects in Far North Queensland – for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, MGF Consultants’ offices, and Mother of Good Counsel Church in Innisfail.
Based in Cairns from 2003-2011, Carl is now based in Brisbane but maintains close connections with Far North Queensland and continues to deliver projects locally.
