Learning outcomes:
After the seminar, the attendants will be able to:
Explain the worldwide public policy interest in wellbeing, the performance of public places and how this impacts upon the work of Architects
Identify characteristics of socially inclusive design led engagement processes and their implications for sustaining social connection and effective public outcomes
Explain a range of ways in which design process engages public involvement across the spectrum from consultation to co-creation and the differences between them
Implement ideas and practices which expand the depth of client/architect/community interaction and greater scopes of work and client offerings
Identify the practice issues that need to change to achieve optimized socially sustainable outcomes
Understand socially inclusive design issues and select from a range of ways that a design process can ensure social inclusion is attained
Presenter Biography:
Dr Angelique Edmonds is a Lecturer at the University of South Australia, where she teaches in both Architecture and Sustainable Design programs and supervises Masters and PhD research. She is also Creative Director of the School for Creating Change. She is a current Design Review panellist with ODASA (the Office for Design and Architecture, South Australia) and member of the AIA National Visiting Panel. She has previously been a member of the National Sustainability Committee for AIA, Chair of the SA Sustainability committee and SA Chapter Councillor. Angelique also served on the National steering group for ANDI (Australia’s National Development Index) which is essentially Australia’s wellbeing Index.
Angelique is passionate about the ways in which architecture can participate in, and impact upon, people's everyday lives. She has a particular interest in public engagement, socially inclusive design, design approaches which foster resilience and promote public agency. Angelique has over a decade of experience in community engagement and participatory Design processes across diverse sectors, including cross cultural projects in Arnhem Land (NT) and most recently as Engagement Leader for 5000+, a National pilot project creating an Integrated Design Strategy for Adelaide. She has consulted to SA and NT governments and established public sustainability education initiatives in partnership with local governments in NSW. She has taught in 4 different Australian Universities over the past decade and has a PhD (ANU), M.Phil (Cambridge University) and Architecture Degrees from Kingston University in London and UNSW in Sydney.
