The garden was designed by John Sullivan and my brief to him was a native garden with dry elements as well as tropical. The garden has evolved since 2005. The results have been remarkable. The garden is featured in two publications: Contemporary Australian Garden Design by John Patrick and Jenny Wade – Port Douglas Garden pages 226-235; and Garden Voices by Anne Latreille – John Sullivan pages 184-185 (Port Douglas Garden 2005).
There are mature trees, understorey and ground covers. Plants include various grevilleas, callistemons, cycads including Macrozamia moorei over 2 metres tall, grass trees, various palm species, native hibiscus, Syzygium, bush tucker plants, native grasses, ferns including a King fern and many more.
