Cob is an ancient natural building material made from subsoil, water, fibrous organic material, and sometimes lime. Cob is fireproof, mould resistant and also resistant to seismic activity. It is inexpensive. It can be used to create artistic, sculptural forms. Cob is an "organic aggregate" and insulating filler between post and beam construction. (Extract Wikipedia)
You are welcome to attend the whole week or parts of the week:
During the week we will cover many aspects of cob construction and various other forms of earth building from foundations, walls, roofing, natural plasters and finishes. Participants will gain confidence in cob making, what it should feel like, cob application, installing windows and doors, with specifications for cyclone conditions and building certification. We recommend the full week if you want to build your own structure. We also plan some fun mini workshops during the week: an introduction to aquaponics, fermentation, crafting with felt, and yoga.
If you can't make the whole week, we have another option of weekend workshops:
Saturday July 11th: An Introduction to Cob including site selection, soil analysis, mixing and applying cob. Saturday July 18th: Natural renders and plastering.
Costs and inclusions:
The whole 9 days (Sat 11th to Sun 19th July) including all tuition, meals and camping accommodation: $880
The whole 9 days for locals who go home each night. You will receive the same tuition, snacks and hearty lunch: Discounted to $700.
Weekend workshop July 11th: An introduction to Cob and wholefood lunch and snacks included: $150
Weekend workshop July 18th: Natural renders and plastering and wholefood lunch and snacks included: $150
