Indonesia Australia Business Week 2015

Indonesia Australia
Business Week 2015

Jakarta, 17-20 November 2015

The Hon Mr Andrew Robb AO MP, Minister for Trade and Investment is expected to lead an Australian Government trade and investment mission to Indonesia from 17-20 November 2015. Minister Robb is also expected to attend the Indonesia Australia Business Council (IABC) Conference 2015 held earlier in the week.  Delegates attending Indonesia Australia Business Week (IABW) may also like to consider registering for the IABC conference.

The mission aims to enhance bilateral relationships through high-level political and commercial exchanges, and to promote Australia as a trade, investment, education and tourism partner.

IABW is a government initiative which aims to promote Australia and Australian capability with a programme tailored to major industry sectors. Indonesia is a multifaceted business environment and the sector-specific networking events will raise the understanding of doing business in Indonesia and enhance existing relationships with Indonesian businesses.

Indonesia Australia Business Week (IABW) provides an ideal opportunity to understand the market, network with potential partners and qualify opportunities.

Nine business streams are promoted and two focus on the built environment.

Members of the Tropical Green Building Network met with the Indonesia Green Building Council in 2014 and Far North Queensland delegates will be supported with contact connections and further information.

Infrastructure - Urban Sustainability and Transport Connectivity

Indonesia’s rapid rate of urbanisation, demand on space and scarce resources, including water and electricity, is putting significant strain on the existing infrastructure.  With conventional urban planning practices clearly no longer sufficient to cater for Indonesia’s current demands, the opportunity exists for new, innovative urban designs with a greater focus on sustainability.

Infrastructure expansion, upgrades and construction activities in cities, ports, roads, airports and railways are a priority for the Indonesian government.  The announced pipeline of more than 100 major port, airport, civil and other infrastructure projects provides significant opportunities for Australian companies as Indonesia lacks the financial and technical capability to deliver these projects alone.

Australia has substantial capability in the creation of innovative solutions for infrastructure planning, finance and delivery.

Australia’s experience in creating liveable, sustainable, resilient cities in varying climactic and geographic zones is especially important given Indonesia’s vast archipelago and vulnerability to extreme weather events.  Of particular relevance is Australia’s world leading capabilities in water, transport and urban sustainability.

Resources and Energy

Indonesian energy demand is predicted to rapidly increase over the next decade, adding to already existing challenges around the delivery of stable electricity supply to businesses and households around the country.

To meet this demand, the Indonesian Government has targeted the construction of 35,000 MW of new capacity over the next five years. Indonesia has also set ambitious targets in its national energy policy to upscale gas and renewables in its power generation mix by 2025.

Large international mining operations in Indonesia face similar challenges to Australia: remoteness, difficulty of access and the need for better cost efficiency and cost savings. Indonesia offers opportunities for experienced Australian mining operators, experienced METS exporters and companies with multiple overseas operations.

Indonesia is one of the world's largest exporters of LNG and its current production capacity is set to increase, with new liquefaction projects expected to come online by 2020. Indonesia also offers potential new projects in conventional and non-conventional oil and gas exploration, construction and operation.

State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) and multinational mining companies operating in Indonesia are seeking procurement in technology, innovation and safety. Opportunities also exist for large EPCs overseeing mine development and management.

Indonesia’s geography and climate also provide enormous potential to utilise renewable energy in future generations. The share of renewable energy in Indonesia’s total energy use is currently around five to six per cent with the government setting a target to increase that share to 19 per cent by 2019.

Indonesia offers opportunities in hydro power generation and wind generation following on from the planned completion of Indonesia’s first wind farm due to be completed by 2019.
