Project Summary
IGA is one of the Australia's largest supermarket chains that has strong regional markets, strengthening the economy of regional towns like Innisfail. The store design and engineering services by Thirkell Consulting Engineers & Building Design was quality controlled and supported the IGA branding.
Thirkell Consulting Engineers & Building Design played a pivotal role in all phases of the design, structural and civil engineering, and construction of the major alterations and additions to the store. The original 1930's pop-riveted structure was economically upgraded to comply with building codes, and a new plant area and ablutions block was added. The design of the steel structure for the raised plant area and its load is partly cantilevered to accommodate traffic movements.
